Laura Marlings 2nd album 'I speak because I can' is a folk album. this is not very obvious their is not alot that we can link with that genre which is featured on this cover, We can link the fact that she has been painted which could suggest this album's genre is folk. The title 'I speak because I can' tells us that perhaps this artist is trying to be more independent and grown up, this could also be reflected in what she is wearing, the grey background, and perhaps the colours inbetween the gaps in the letterings of the album title might be to represent how she has changed as it is quite a childish thing to do. Laura's body language of hands on hips and eyes shut looking down slightly, suggests that she upset which tells us that this album could answer what the reason behind it is. This album is most likely targetted at a more middle aged age group rather than a younger one, this comes across as she seems to be growing up theirfore this should appeal to an older generation. The album may appeal more to a female audience rather than a male as it is a solo female artist and males may not be able to relate, with either a middle or upper class background as the cover looks quite elegant.

The music genre of the band ‘The Libertines’ is quite clearly Indie rock which is shown from this their self titled 2nd album as they are looking pretty rough and the lettering used for the band’s name is uneven. On this cover, only two of the bands members are shown, this is most likely to show off their image and to show the connection between the two band members as they are very close to each other and are touching. This album is self titled ‘The Libertines’ this is most likely because the band does not need to sell its image as this is their 2nd album but rather their two main figure roles in the band being these two’s close relation to each other. The cover seems set in a nightclub kind of atmosphere in a fairly low lit area which suggests the two may have had a lot to drink, we can tell that drugs might be involved as Pete, the man wearing a red shirt, is smoking a cigarette, the two are looking very pale and Pete is also holding his arm out as if he is ready to inject something into it. The camera shot is angled up so that Carl, the man wearing a white tank-top, has to look up and this makes the audience respond as this makes it seem like we are looking down on them making us feel in control and able to judge them for the mess they are in. the band are targeting a young audience only with this album as many older people will not like the drug theme used in this album cover, of any background however mainly low- middle class, and of any gender.

Taking Back Sunday are an Alternate, punk rock band and they do not feature in the album cover, you wouldn’t automatically think they were if you were to see this album cover as the band’s name is lit up brightly which suggests the band maybe glam rock. We can tell this is their new album from underneath the album title which says “The New Album”. The slight hint that the band may have a punk element to them is from the wonky letters which spell out ‘LOUDER NOW’ just underneath the band’s name. This album is the bands 3rd therefore the reason they may not be appearing in the album is because they have already made an image for the band or as they want to make themselves all about the music rather than their image. The image is of a lady who has her face covered by the speak box who is in a glass booth, this could be to draw attention away from her and onto the album name just above of her in the middle. The band are targeting with this album to gain perhaps a more mainstream audience as the bright lights may suggest, quite a youthful age group as a lot is going on behind the camera which is shown from in the reflection in the glass booth but not necessarily as the colors used are fairly dull which could appeal to an older audience, and both genders as there is little to suggest that the band are appealing to females or males.
